Welcome to my web page. This is my corner of the CyberWorld were you can catch up with the latest news. On this page you will find some general family information, information from McLeansboro, and my email address, so you can email your latest news by clicking on the mailbox in the left margin.

McLeansboro

The McLeansboro clan established themselves in southern Illinois in the late 1800's. I was born there around that same time and grew up near Tucker's Corner. McLeansboro was a great place to grow up and I never minded the 3 mile walk to school and the 5 mile walk back home, even though we always had 4 feet of snow and it was uphill both ways.... (Did I mention my daughter developed this web page for me and I have no idea how to change it?)

I grew up with some nowaday famous people. Two most notables are Jerry Sloan, head coach for the Utah Jazz, and Jim Burns, Chicago's Attorney General and possible future governor of the state of Illinois. But the folks that make McLeansboro home to me are my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, many of whom still reside in or around McLeansboro.

The recent passing of my father happened in January of 2002. He lived a full and good life, living to the age of 97. His legacy lives on in over 125 direct descendants. Mom passed away in 1982, after 50+ years of marriage. Dad always missed her terribly.

Peoria

As the eldest son of Opal & Inman McGill, I moved to Peoria in search of employment in 1952. At 17, I took a job at Caterpillar, Inc. as a Sweeper/chipwheeler (9-3-52). I retired after 44 years of service. Soon after I took a job as a the Executive Director/lobbyist for the Illinois Cast Metals Association. I retired from that position in 2001 after 5 years of service.

Brother John and I both serve on the Caterpillar Retirees Club board of directors. We are actively planning Caterpillar's 35th Anniversary of the Retirees Club to be held on June 15th, 2002 at the Peoria Civic Center. All Caterpillar retirees are welcome to this great event!
